Foobar2000 - The best audio player

Today (2017) it is possible to use a lot of good free audio players. For Windows users, some examples are Winamp, VLC, AIMP and Foobar2000. Even if all of them are very good players, my best choice is Foobar2000.

Foobar2000

There are many reasons that make this audio player the best one:
  1. It is very simple to use, and to customize
  2. It is very light on CPU
  3. It's free, and it is periodically updated
  4. It is able to reproduce every audio format. I've never found a player that is able to reproduce all the formats played by Foobar2000 (maybe only VLC is similar)
  5. It allows to use and customize some audio analysis tools that are usually not  available in other free audio players. For example, it is possible to use an audio spectrum analyzer, and to choose the number of bands to display. It is possible to visualize both the classic peak meter, and a useful and practical VU meter, to check the RMS level
  6. It allows to easily convert the audio format of the tracks, with a mouse click. The Foobar2000 site allows moreover to download a free encoder pack here. Many formats are included, like MP3, FLAC and so on
  7. It allows to easily add meta tags, not only on mp3 files, but on FLAC and WAV files too! The metatag addition on WAV files is a very uncommon functionality, and few audio software offer this possibility. I use Foobar2000 to add metadata for the WAV tracks mastered for my clients
In summary, this is a very good audio player, and I suggest it to all those people who want to play their audio files with fidelity and simplicity. The only weakness: it is not available for Mac!
